Elder Law, Guardianships and Long Term Care...
Guardianships: When someone you love is no longer able to manage their affairs due to a mental illness or Alzheimer's or other health problems, a guardianship may be the most appropriate remedy. A guardianship is overseen by the courts, which may give you the power to make financial decisions for another. -
A guardianship
requires a medical evaluation by a licensed physician establishing the need, filing petitions and a bond with the court, and providing notice to all interested parties.
A guardian takes on total personal and financial responsibility for the person in need and must be able to act in the best interest of the ward. The guardian must also be financially accountable, filing a record every year with the court showing what money was received and how it was spent.
